Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
They both actively seek knowledge, both never being satisfied with what they already know. In Ike’s case, he seeks to learn not only better sword skills but also about the world around him and the way people are (and why they are that way, when it differs from his assumptions) whereas in Soren’s case, he seeks practical and academic knowledge with a narrow goal (helping Ike). This is one reason why their ending together works so well in my mind.

Also Ike seems interested in learning new languages (in his conversation with Volug), though it’s probably related to better understanding people

Ike: Hold on a second... Aren't these your men? Why are you fighting them?
Oliver: It's quite simple, really. A true guardian of beauty stands with those who are beautiful. If your exquisite heron prince will not stay here in my home, I must follow him. I have seen death; it holds no mystery for me. Only my pursuit matters. Rest at ease, friends.
Ike: Look...Would you mind rejoining the enemy?
I wish there were more interactions between these two
Okay Rhys; you have now officially earned my respect and made me realise why you are really squishy.
How it should have gone!
Yes, back in March when I did my Headcanon March thing, I ended with some bonus updates, including two examples of how, if I were a big name on the Radiant Dawn design/writing team, I would have written certain scenes. And this is another example, an example I like to call, “And I’m Kinda Freakin’ Out.”
